Zoey & Boots’ Recovery Story
What a simple change in diet can do for your dogs.
I found the owner, Dan, of Companion’s Fresh, after one of my dogs, Zoey, was diagnosed with stage 3 liver failure, well over a year ago now. The Veterinarian we were using during this time gave little hope that she would live much longer than a couple of months.
I remember doing a Google search looking for the freshest cleanest dog food after I had gotten this horrible news and reached Dan by phone. He asked what she was eating and I explained that she was on a prescription diet that my mother’s veterinarian had recommended when Zoey was just four years old.
I forgot to mention, we inherited her when my mother passed away in 2019. She is a full breed Shih Tzu, who suffered many ailments over the years. So Dan was explaining how toxic these prescription foods are to dogs. We immediately started her and my older dog on Companion’s Fresh and just prayed that she could tolerate this food and hopefully live a little longer.
Several months went by and we were shocked and surprised that she not only tolerated the food, but she started gaining weight. Just as we started to become excited that she was doing so well, my older dog, that is almost 16 years old now, suddenly began rapidly losing weight, suffering from diarrhea and lost her appetite.
We had already started her on Companion’s Fresh at the same time Zoey fell ill, so when we took her in to the Vet, they said she has two hard lumps in her lymph nodes that appear to be cancerous and by her physical lethargic state and weight loss, they couldn’t tell us how long she has to live.
At this point we called a mobile veterinarian that our dog groomer had recommended, so that when she became sick enough to let me know that she’s had enough, we could humanely have this done in the comfort of her own home. This new Vet came for what is referred to as a dog hospice “comfort visit.” She agreed that Boots still had a will to live, but was extremely weak and underweight.
She was given meds to help slow down the diarrhea because the other Vet’s attempt at this didn’t work. She also gave us 4 vitamin B shots to give her once a month. Boots gradually began holding her food down and the diarrhea eventually stopped. She started gaining weight and her strength was slowly returning. The second Vet visit was shocking because we learned that Boots gained 2 1/2 pounds, which is a lot when her overall normal weight is 8.5 lbs.
This Vet was shocked to see her bounce back after a few short months into a vibrant dog who started acting like a puppy again. The Vet told me this was remarkable and that she no longer required further visits.
She is back playing with her toys and acting as though nothing ever happened.
This is a story of two dogs, that are two years apart in age, who have both come back after very bleak diagnoses. We are very grateful to still have our beloved dogs with us and we truly believe that what you eat has the power to destroy any disease in the body. This goes for people and animals alike.
A big thank you to Dan for all of his support throughout our ordeal and of course, his life saving dog food!
This is why I do this!
When I hear stories like this from my customers, it really makes me feel good about what I do and how I am making a good use out of my life as much I as I can, helping other pet owners who loves their dogs so dearly as I do.
While I was unable to save my own dog who had been diagnosed with cancer, I am so happy to be able to help other dogs gain their health back and be able to spend more time with their loving owners after falling ill.
A simple change in your dog's diet can really make a world of a change for your dog's health. We are what we eat, and same goes for our dogs. If they are given commercial kibbles with a ton of toxic in them and just the minimum amount of nutrients required to be sold in the market, your dog's health will deteriorate rather quickly over time.
It is up to the pet owners to gain the knowledge and the information on what is good for their dogs and give them what they really deserve for giving you all their unconditional love, because a dog can only eat what they're given by their owners.
I hope this powerful message of Zoey and Boots' story has help with understanding the importance of diet for dogs and what kind of effect they can have on their health. I firmly believe that it is not too late for you to make the switch today for your dogs. Start making fresh, healthy and real food for your dogs starting today!
